Hi, I’m Lauren.

About Me

Lauren Maxwell is a Master of Divinity candidate at Yale Divinity School, where she studies the intersections of art, theology, and spiritual care with a deep interest in the work of reconciliation.

She also writes a weekly column for people asking life’s big questions called WE’RE ALL FRIENDS HERE.

Lauren believes that asking the big questions, together, can help us imagine a new world into being, mend fractures in communities, and address the pressing issues of our time. She is inspired by the vital work of connection and the role beauty, pleasure, and joy play in animating our lives.

As a writer with over a decade of experience, Lauren has had essays published in Catapult, Glamour, Bustle, Stylist, The Dirty Spoon, TOWN, and Restless Magazine. Also a singer, Lauren’s experience as a musician informs everything she does.

Prior to divinity school, Lauren worked in corporate tech, marketing, retail, education, and the nonprofit sector, so her varied experience aids her in helping communities connect across lines of difference.

Trained as a yoga teacher specializing in alignment, spinal issues, and the nervous system, Lauren is also dedicated to lifting up how our bodies connect to our hearts, minds, and experience, both at the personal and community levels. She enjoys integrating her interest in embodied practice with trauma-informed spiritual care.

What People Are Saying

"In 2015, Lauren rewrote the book for IBM rookies. Having only joined IBM in November 2014, she immediately made a major impact on a massive internal rollout of 450K mailboxes globally. Lauren’s communications strategy was the fulcrum of success, and a hallmark in reinventing IBM. She designed communications for the rollout in an engaging, modern style that won accolades and resulted in a high percentage success rate for a perilous process that scaled one employee at a time. Lauren represented our domain in so many positive ways. She built great content that was used and reused tens of thousands of times in the organization. She used every available channel to build awareness of our success and was proactive in finding ways to team with other IBM organizations. Lauren worked tirelessly to find unhappy colleagues and convert them to our best advocates. Amazingly, she didn’t stop there. Lauren did stretch assignments and visited numerous clients to tell our success story. And importantly, she did all of this with a 100% positive track record – I never received even a single sentence of negative feedback."
